Job Title: Coding Supervisor

Location: Remote

Job Purpose: The Coding Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the timeliness and accuracy of coding for their assigned team, while providing the necessary support for all work processes and coding guidelines.

Essential Functions:

▪ Responsible for directly supervising staff to include but not limited to paid time off approval, attendance monitoring, productivity and quality monitoring, timecard approval and participation in corrective actions
▪ Assist with training for new and established coders
▪ Conduct productivity reviews on a monthly basis and individual feedback sessions with formal productivity reports to staff
▪ Monitor productivity on an ongoing basis throughout the month to ensure client terms are being met
▪ Coordinate any necessary in-services for coding staff related to issues discovered during quality reviews or any new procedures that are being performed and coordinate with external resources when necessary
▪ Compute and analyze documentation and coding data; document findings and submit required reports
▪ Serve as first-line resource to staff regarding assignments, physician issues and clinical documentation interpretation
▪ Serve as subject matter expert regarding coding guidelines
▪ Identify inefficiencies and make suggestions for improvements and implement improvements
▪ Assist staff members with questions regarding assignments
▪ Deliver monthly quality scores to assigned staff members

Additional Functions:

▪ Serve as resource for practices we have relationship with when needed
▪ Ensure staff complete annual training requirements
▪ Assist with completing and administering meaningful performance reviews on time
▪ Assist with issuing and monitoring corrective performance action plans as indicated to ensure optimal performance; escalate performance management plan as appropriate for continued non-performance
▪ Maintain expertise in all areas of coding (physician and procedural coding), abstracting and relevant clinical issues through literature reviews and attendance at workshops/in-services
▪ Assist in implementation and communication of trends and changes to customers, other HAP departments and physician and facility Coding Services staff
▪ Monitor compliance with policies and procedures relevant to clinical coding data management and make suggested improvements
▪ Assist with coverage for coding staffing during absences such as vacation or holidays
▪ Provide support for departmental projects as assigned

Knowledge and Skills:

▪ Experience and knowledge of CMS Part B guidelines
▪ Extensive experience with professional code assignment
▪ Maintain continuous development and improvement of coding skills
▪ Effective presentation skills
▪ Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office; specifically, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Visio
▪ Strong time management and organizational skills
▪ Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work in multiple situations to meet departmental goals
▪ Knowledge of applicable applications and spreadsheet design
▪ Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills to communicate with physicians, clinical staff and assigned team members
▪ Ability to identify data sources and collect/interpret data
▪ Strong attention to detail
▪ Demonstrated understanding and compliance with HIPAA privacy requirements

Education and Work Experience:

▪ High School Diploma or GED required
▪ Associates degree or higher, preferred
▪ One or more professional credentials through AHIMA or AAPC required: CPC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, RHIT
▪ Minimum three years coding experience preferred
